In order to become a truck driver, one need not possess any professional qualification. In fact, no academic qualification is required as such either. All you need is to have passed school or GED degree. Though it is not a prerequisite but it certainly gives you an advantage while applying, not to mention in the pay scale. A training program usually takes about a week to finish while some do end up taking a few months. More over, since truck drivers are in demand, finding jobs is not at all difficult.In order to become a truck driver of a vehicle costing a certain amount or more or any other truck that may be smaller in size but carrying dangerous material on board, a Commercial Driving License (CDL) has to be obtained. To obtain such a license, certain tests have to be passed. The driver’s dexterity with his vehicle has to be proved and approved by the Government.
A long distance truck driver usually makes something between thirty thousand dollars a year. If the driver has experience, his potential is of a much more remuneration. Long distance truck drivers are generally paid on the basis of number of miles driven by them. The other factors deciding their pay scale is the experience they have the road conditions and timing.
It is very important to have a good record. For those drivers who have got a lot of speeding tickets or miscellaneous penalties such as driving under influence of alcohol, it becomes difficult to find jobs or maintain their original ones. It goes without saying that the law has to be abided by and anything untoward is reprehensible. All in all, one can say that truck driver’s job can be lucrative and very viable for those who possess little qualification. It is also suited for those who get kicks by traveling on the road.
