Female Truck Drivers
With the modernisation of our society the numbers of female truck drivers are at an all time high. There are more female truck drivers than at any time in the past. The female drivers are not only restricted to the local areas but they also drive on long haul routes. This is quite amazing as the job of driving a truck is not that easy. One needs a lot of physical strength and stamina to drive over long distances. This is an indication of the fact that women nower days are prepared to do the tough jobs that a few years ago where restricted to the male sex only.A study shows that in 1995 in America there were only one million and thirty thousand female truck drivers and of them the long distance drivers were very few. But this figure is up to 155,000 in 2005 and is expected to cross the two million mark by end of 2007. The survey was carried out by American Trucking Association and was confirmed by Bureau of Labour Statistics which is part of the US Federal Government.
The major reason for such increase the female truck drivers are the lack of truck drivers in the State. The economy is at its best which requires many truck drivers but the shortage of them created a huge demand which is a lot higher than the supply. This results in increase of the salary and incentives. The higher salary induces the women to take up these jobs in order to make up foe their livelihood. The trucking association estimates the demand for truck drivers to up to seven hundred thousand and so the lucrative salaries are here to stay for a long time.
